idea development

Two images of drawings from my sketchbook, which i have then developed ideas from by request to illustrate a friends vinyl sleeve, the right image being the more recent and evolved idea.

Different mediums of shading, first is a colour pencil sketch, the second chalk.

Portrait, The Distressed Image

Po r t r a i t  - T h e   D i s t r e s s e d  I m a g e
current experimental portrait shots work for college,
The top 3 and middle bottom self portraits were originally taken in digital using a long shutter speed to create the effect of movement, which i then inverted and used the print outs as paper negatives. Then the bottom right and left images were also taken using long shutter speeds but on 35mm film, which i also made paper negatives out of the photographs to distress the image further.

old and recent paintings

The first image is a ink pen drawing which i then used water colours to bleed the ink and fill in, the second i used ink paint. Then the 3 last images, first one being a mix of water colours and oil paint, the second i experimented with texture and shape using oil again. The last piece i used water colours and ink paints.

First is a pen sketch, the second pencil

experimental darkroom processes

For the first two images, in the red room, i placed photographic paper under water, let repelled drops of oil settle on the surface and then solarised the paper using a torch for a second and then developed. Solarising black and white prints creates the slightly off purple tint. The last image's colours are reversed in comparison, as this would be classed as a photo-gram, here i placed the paper in a tray of water under an enlarger this time and exposed it for the split few seconds i dotted in drops of black Indian ink.
